Every fabulous Thanksgiving feast starts with a gorgeous tablescape, and it doesn’t have to be complicated. At LivLuxe we are all about de-fussing the table top. Now, let’s be clear …. we are not saying to deglamorize or make the table any less put together! The whole process should be well planned, less time consuming and less stressful.
This year, choose to focus on two key elements – linens and glassware. Then, allow the fixings to take center stage.
Start by deciding on a tablecloth, table runner, placemats, and charger plates. Lately, we have favored a dramatic table runner and coordinating chargers. This is totally up to the host or hostess, and can also depend on the table style.
A gorgeous dining table need not be covered! Go for a narrow table runner to let the table really shine. Pair with charger plates or placemats that accentuate the china.
Have a beautiful tablecloth in a metallic embroidery, fall-hued pattern, or a delicate family heirloom? If so, notice that a pretty cloth can transform the whole room. No placemats or chargers needed! Simply add coordinating dinner napkins, china and cutlery. Want a bolder, layered look? Go for a gold or silver charger plate that will highlight details of the tablecloth.
Choose a napkin that is classic and can get the job done. Ever tried to wipe gravy away with a silk napkin? Not the best choice when gathering friends and family for a full-on feast. Go for a heavy linen napkin with a hemstitch border. Monogrammed linens can elevate the setting, while non-monogrammed linens are modern and crisp.
Now, on to the glassware. O the glassware! Glassware is to a hostess what a handbag is to a fashionista. This one choice will set the tone for the evening, and can showcase the personality of the dinner host.
Wanting a laid back and relaxed dinner? We suggest a streamlined water glass with matching wine. Avoid etched glass, or anything with a frilly stem. There is no need to set multiple wine glasses for this group. One clean-lined water and wine glass should do.
Planning a more glamorous affair? Then go all out with a stemmed water glass, white wine, red wine, and dessert wine glass. Cut crystal is classic, while gold or platinum designed glassware really ups the glam factor. Colored glass in jewel tones (emerald, ruby, amethyst or sapphire) is chic and ornate. Just make sure to coordinate with the dinnerware and linens. Try not to be too matchy – matchy here. For example, mix it up by pairing shades of amethyst and ruby.

Trends to Try
Rustic does not have to be masculine and dated. This year, try topping the table with all white, crisp linens and dishware. Bring in life with thick glass water goblets (hello Simon Pearce), pewter stemmed wine glasses, wood plate chargers with metallic details, and candlelight. No floral needed. Focus on white, wood and candlelight!
The Golden Hour
The golden colors of sunset are gorgeous on a dinner table. Amber, deep coral and orange mixed with gold can really usher in the holiday season. Other warm metallics such as copper and rose gold also work well and are unexpected. Look for pretty place card holders, votive candle holders and cutlery in coordinating metallic metals for even more sheen.
Simple reminders of the harvest season will make guests feel right at home. Shades of rust, eggplant, pumpkin and maple in linens and colored glassware are comforting and inviting. Echo the theme with pumpkins and gourds in varying sizes and colors for an easy centerpiece.
Spending Thanksgiving at the beach or lake house? Opt out of the classic holiday table, and go for pretty pastel linens in blue, lavender or coral. A Unexpected and lovely any time of year!
